Plot[]
Many Nicktoon characters receive invitations to compete in a Grand Prix for the top prize, the Krusty Krab Big Bun Award and a year's supply of Krabby Patties. A mysterious individual dubbed the Mystery Rider, who sent invitations to the racers, is shown driving a black car with a tinted dome window. Upon arriving, the Mystery Rider and the other Nicktoons speed off to begin their races.
After winning the third cup, the Nicktoon controlled by the player wins the year's supply of Krabby Patties and drives off with them. The Mystery Rider arrives at the ceremony and is revealed to be Sheldon J. Plankton. The announcer reveals that Plankton was the one who created the series of races as a front to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula. The winning Nicktoon then drives off into the sunset with the Krabby Patties in tow.
Gameplay[]
Nicktoons Racing is a kart racing game where various Nicktoons race in different modes similarly to the Mario Kart franchise, where each track is based on a Nicktoon.
Players can play as various Nicktoons from the 1990's. While racing, the player can choose from either Easy, Medium, or Hard difficulty, the latter two being unlocked as the player progresses. Except for the Game Boy Color version, the Game Boy Advance version of Nicktoons Racing allows up to four players to compete where each player must own a copy.
On the tracks, players can use power-ups by running over presents to get an item, which can then be used to attack opponents, defend themselves from items, or the player themselves. Also, there are purple and orange blobs that, when picked up, fill up the player's Speedburst Meter. While driving, the player must then press Up on the Control Pad twice to activate the booster, to which the meter will drain the more it's filled.
There are five modes to choose from, two of which are multiplayer exclusive:
- Cups: The main game mode. Players race against computer-controlled drivers in 4 races to get the most points to unlock the next cup. This mode is also required to beat the story, unlock the other modes, and play as the Mystery Rider. If a player fails to place within the top 3, they will be forced to restart the track.
- Time Trial: Players are tasked with getting the fastest time they can on the course of their choice.
- Race for Fun: A single-race mode where players race on the track of their choice.
- Versus: Two to four players compete to see who can be the first to cross the finish line on a chosen track.
- Battle: A game mode where players pass a green bubble that oscillates around them. When time runs out, the green bubble pops and the player who held the bubble is out for the rest of the round. Eliminated players can still use items to hinder their opponents.
Items[]
- Baby Powder: The opponent is hit with a cloud of powder as they spin out.
- Trash Can: Makes the opponent spin out longer than usual.
- Slime: A green glob that spins the target out.
- Gritty Kitty Litter: A bag of kitty litter that powders the target.
- Coconuts: Three spinning coconuts that fire in a spread pattern and damage the opponents that touch them.
- Powdered Toast: Lobs three pieces of powdered toast in front of the user that leave behind shockwaves when they hit the ground, damaging any racers nearby.
- Bubble: Traps the opponent ahead of the user in a bubble, making them unable to move for a few moments.
- Jellyfish: Targets the current leader in the race.
- Magic Totem: Steals a random player's item.
- Stumpy: A wooden stump with a face that falls on the racers ahead of the user, temporarily stunning them.
- Shield: An orange barrier that protects the player from all attacks and temporarily increases their speed. Any racer they bump into will spin out.
