NHL Breakaway '98 is a sports game (focused on ice hockey) for the Nintendo 64. It is licensed by the National Hockey League and its Player's Association. The game was followed by a sequel, NHL Breakaway '99.

Gameplay[]

The game has five gameplay modes: Exhibition, Season, Playoff, Practice, and Shoot-out. The players in the game have varying sizes which also affects how strong and fast they are on the ice. Those features are supported by a Momentum-Based Checking System.

Player creation is also available, with the custom name appearing on the back of the player's jersey. The Rumble Pak is also supported.

As in the real-world sport of hockey, the object is to score more goals than the opposing team to win the game.

Teams[]

All the 26 NHL teams from that year appear in the game.

Box Art[]

The box art for the game is a still shot of former player Keith Tkachuk of the Phoenix Coyotes who led the League in goals the previous year.
