NHL 98 is a sports game (focused on ice hockey) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It was released exclusively in North America.

Gameplay

The game was very similar to it's predecessor NHL 97. It had similar graphics and animation. International teams were introduced for this game. Real-life sports announcer Jim Hughson returns to do the in-game play-by-play, this time adding commentator Daryl Reaugh. It's the final hockey game to be released on a 16-bit system.

As in the real-world sport of hockey, the object is to score more goals than the opposing team to win the game.

Teams

Since the game is licensed by the National Hockey League and it's Player's Association, all real-world NHL teams and players from that year are included in the game.

Although the game includes international teams, the Nagano Olympic teams are not. Midway acquired the rights for the Olympics and released Olympic Hockey 98 a few months later.

Box Art

The box art for the game has a still shot of Peter Forsberg from the Colorado Avalanche, the Presidents' Trophy winning team the previous year for the best overall record in the League.
