The NES Max is a redesigned controller for the NES manufactured by Nintendo in 1988. It features textured grips and instead of a standard directional pad, it features a directional input called a Cycloid, which slides in all directions. The Start and Select buttons are smaller and made of plastic instead of rubber. The two A and B buttons are smaller than the original, and because of the two grips, it is said to be much easier to hold. One of its main features are the Turbo A and B buttons, which help in games involving button mashing and repetitively pressing A button, similar to the NES Advantage (except there is no speed adjustment). The controller also resembles that of modern controllers such as the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and Classic Controller Pro because of its grips.
Features[]
The NES Max is a controller made by Nintendo for the NES. It has the Turbo feature of the Advantage, but it is the size of a standard NES controller.
Turbo Buttons[]
The NES Max features turbo controls for the A and B buttons. Unlike the NES Advantage controller, it doesn't allow players to adjust the turbo function's speed.
Cycloid[]
The Cycloid was the directional pad of the NES Max controller. It is a black circle with a smaller red circle inside of it that you can slide around. Apart from the red circle, it functions identically to a standard directional pad.
The Cycloid somewhat resembles the Circle Pad of the 3DS.
