Nintendo

Mr. Nutz is a 2D sidescrolling platform video game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the Game Boy, the Game Boy Color, and the Game Boy Advance. The SNES version was developed and published by Ocean Software Limited, and released in Europe in November 1993, in North America in August 1994, and in Japan on October 7, 1994 while the Game Boy version only released in Europe in 1994.

The Game Boy Color version, released in 1999, was developed by Planet Interactive Development, and the Game Boy Advance version, released in 2001, was developed by DreamOn Studio. Both versions were published by Infogrames.

Gameplay[]

The player controls Mr. Nutz, a red squirrel, as he walks through several levels separated into journeys. Mr. Nutz's primary abilities are running, jumping, swimming, and collecting items. Mr. Nutz can attack most enemies by jumping on them, using his tail to attack, or throwing acorns at them. Unlike the game's bosses, most enemies are defeated in one hit. If the player touches an enemy, they will lose one health point and get brief invincibility.

While the game doesn't have an in-game timer, players are free to take as long as they want within a level, although they are awarded bonus points for completing it quickly. Coins, health, and extra lives are found in the levels. The amount of Coins the player collects count toward the completion bonus at the end of a Journey.

Depending on the version and difficulty level, the player has a limited number of lives and health units. When all health is lost, the player must start at the beginning of the current journey.

Plot[]

When Mr. Nutz learns about a permanent ice age, he sets out to stop Mr. Blizzard, a Yeti, from carrying out his plans.

Trivia[]

  • Mr. Spider is the only boss to speak directly to Mr. Nutz.
  • Ograoum Papas is considered to be the most infamous boss in the game, due to how he attacks the player with his eyes.
  • Little Clown, the boss of Mean Streets, was renamed to "The Clown" in the GBA version. Due to system limitations, his shrunken appearance is absent in the Game Boy and Game Boy Color version.
