Maximum Entertainment is a publisher based in Stockholm, Sweden. It was found as a family-oriented American video game publisher based in Walnut Creek, California that acted as North American distributor for several European publishers. The company was acquired by Zordix AB in 2021. It consisted of 4 publishing labels, Just For Games, Maximum Games, Modus Games and Merge Games. In 2024, it unified the publisher labels into a single brand, Maximum Entertainment.
History[]
The company was founded in 2009 as Maximum Family Games, publishing casual Wii and Nintendo DS games. The company rebranded in 2012 to just Maximum Games. The company pivoted to physical distribution in North America for European publishes.
In March 2016, Maximum Games acquired the UK publisher Avanquest Software, expanding into the European market. In 2017, Maximum Games founded Modus Games which focused on providing full-service publishing services to independent video game developers. They acquired the Brazilian studio, The Balance Inc, in 2019, and rebranded it as Modus Studios Brazil. In addition to the Override games, the studio codevelops and assists in porting other titles under Modus Games.
In 2021, the company was bought by Zordix AB, for a total of $42 million, with additional earnouts of up to $30 million. The company rebranded itself as Maximum Entertainment in 2023. They consolidated their acquired developers (Dimfrost, Invictus Games, Mane6, Modus Brazil, and Zordix Racing) into a single label, Modus Studios. In February 2024, the company further consolidated the publishing labels Maximum Games, Modus Games, Just For Games, and Merge Game and the developer Modus Studios into a single label, Maximum Entertainment.
