Masanori Sato (佐藤正徳, Satō Masanori) is an illustrator who worked for Nintendo. He worked on both CG illustrations for video games and standard hand drawn artwork.

Biography[]

The first game Masanori Sato is credited for is Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo 64, though since then he's worked on various high-profile titles such as Yoshi's Story, Pokémon Stadium, Golden Sun, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and Super Paper Mario.

Sato left Nintendo to become a freelancer in 2007.[1] The latest Nintendo-published game for which he is credited is Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, released in 2010. However, his Instagram posts suggest that he might have done uncredited illustration work for Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions.[2][3][4][5][6][7] This is further supported by the fact that he was the sole illustrator of the original game, and the remake is the only title in the series which is completely missing the "Illustration" credit.

On May 8th 2022, Sato confirmed on Instagram that he is not providing the artwork for Mario Strikers: Battle League.[8]
