Mario Party Superstars is a game in the Mario Party series and the second for the Nintendo Switch that was released on October 29, 2021. The game features five boards from the first three Mario Party games (Mario Party, Mario Party 2, Mario Party 3), and mini-games from across the series.

Gameplay

The game returns to more classic rules with the boards behaving similar to the original trilogy. Players can roll a number between 1-10 on the dice and move along the board to find Toadette, who has the star. Board layouts and events have been adjusted. The Minigame Space works similar to Battle Spaces in older entries where player hit a dice block to determine the pool of coins taken from everyone and compete in a Free-for-All minigame with the best performing players getting the most coins in the end.

Aside from the boards, there is Mt. Minigame where players can compete in a series of minigames. Players can play online and try to compete for the longest win streak or play with other players in a tag match

Minigames

Unlike The Top 100, Superstars has more of a focus on the first three games in the series. In addition to the 100 minigames, there are five item minigames. 52 of the minigames in Superstars also appeared in Mario Party: The Top 100.

Mario Party Superstars has an average score of 80/100 based on 88 reviews on Metacritic, indicating "generally favorable reviews".

Mitchell Saltzman of IGN gave a favorable review, stating: "Mario Party Superstars is an amalgamation of some of the best boards, minigames, mechanics, and quality of life improvements from the whole series, resulting in the best Mario Party has been in a very long time."

It sold 163,256 physical copies within its first week of release in Japan, making it the bestselling retail game of the week in the country. As of December 31, 2021, Mario Party Superstars had sold 5.43 million copies worldwide.

Sales

As of the end of 2021, the game reached 5.43 million units sold. This makes it the fourth best selling Mario party game. It is still behind Mario Party 8 by 3 million. As of the end of March 2022, it reached 6.88 million units sold worldwide.

Trivia

• Mario Party Superstars is the first game published by Nintendo on one of their devices to be availible in Brazillian Portuguese.
• Of the games whose minigames were included, Mario Party 8 is the only game to have no four-player minigames present. Mario Party 8 and Mario Party 6 are the only ones with no 1 vs. 3 minigames. The only minigames from Mario Party 8 present are two 2 vs. 2 minigames.
• It is the second best-selling game in the Mario Party, and the best-selling spin-off game.
• The game has became popular among many YouTube gaming personalities.
