Hip Koopa in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3.

Lemmy Koopa was adoringly known as one of Bowser's children and is the second oldest, though he is really immature. However, games after Yoshi's Safari either downplayed or ignored the subject. On September 2012, Miyamoto revealed the Koopalings are not Bowser's children and are really an elite seven-member high ranking team. He likes to play tricks, which, despite his size, can turn out to be very dangerous to his opponents.

In the Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon, he is called Hip Koopa and is 6 years old, just like his twin brother Hop Koopa.

Lemmy is a 'clown'. He has a rainbow (multicoloured) mohawk (ranging from yellow to blue) and green head. He is not the only one to have a mohawk, because his taller brother Iggy also sports one. He also wears two pairs of handcuffs like his brothers and sister. He wears a small orange shell, with yellow rings around the spikes. Lemmy also has a three-ribbed padded stomach and padded feet like his brothers.

He likes bouncing on his circus balls. He has a magic wand that creates smaller balls, which is unlikely to harm the Mario brothers and Toads.

Super Mario Bros. 3

The first appearance of Lemmy and his siblings was in Super Mario Bros. 3. He took over the largest land, Ice Land, turned the king into a Monty Mole, and finally stole the wand. However, his reign came to an end when Mario and Luigi came to fight him for it. Lemmy fired his damaging rubber balls at them and tried to ram them on his ball. Despite his strength, three hits on the head (or several fireballs) defeated the clown, and he gave the wand to Mario.

Super Mario World

When Bowser and the Koopalings took over Dinosaur Land, Lemmy received Vanilla Dome. Lemmy also managed to capture a Yoshi Egg and guarded it in his castle. His reign was short however as the Mario Bros. and their new ally Yoshi came. Lemmy and his dummies hid in pipes and would try to hurt Mario at random. To make it tougher, a Podoboo would bounce around the walls. Even with these puzzling new moves 3 hits on the head will send the Koopaling into the lava below.

Yoshi's Safari

Lemmy and his group were ordered to take over Jewelry Land, where he was entrusted with a gem, plus a mechanical clown created by his twin Iggy. However, when Mario and Yoshi came with the Super Scope, Lemmy had to fight. Lemmy fought by shooting green goo and hopping around. Shooting the mechanical dome, which had the face of Lemmy, would destroy the first half. The second would be shooting Lemmy himself, though he will duck. Hitting his hair would also cause damage to him and his mechanical robot until it explodes, where Lemmy gave up the gem before being sent flying into the horizon.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga

Though having a minor role of guarding the castle, Lemmy and his siblings were hypnotized into thinking Bowletta was their father/boss, and he/she sent the new minions to attack the Mario Bros. Lemmy was the third to be fought. Before battle he cloned himself three times, but the real one was still found out and fought. Lemmy fought by shooting fireballs and cloning himself, but in the end was defeated.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

After 8 years of no Lemmy and siblings, they return and aid his new younger brother/leader Bowser Jr. in kidnapping Princess Peach. Lemmy was put in charge of World 3. Lemmy fought the Mario Bros., Blue Toad, and Yellow Toad by repeating his attack pattern from SMB3. He was then defeated and retreated to his true castle. Lemmy attacked the same way, only with an enlarged ball, however Mario and co. still defeated him.

Lemmy and the others survived, and were seen trying to push Bowser upright, however the castle fell on the royal Koopa family in the end.

New Super Mario Bros. 2

Lemmy returns in New Super Mario Bros. 2, and is the boss of the Flower World. He aids Bowser with his siblings and kidnaps Princess Peach. Like in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the man-child Koopaling fought by balancing on his ball and rolling to the other end frequently, but the gimmick is that Lemmy balances on his ball on a conveyor belt rather than an icy floor. However, Mario succeeded in defeating Lemmy, and he retreated to Bowser's Castle. Lemmy, along with his siblings, taunted Mario on the way to the Boss Door. After Bowser was defeated, Lemmy and his siblings revived Bowser, but the Koopa King knocked them off with his giant size.

Lemmy survived the fall, along with his siblings and Bowser, but the Koopa Clown Car couldn't carry the combined weight of all eight of them and they fell on the hills, injured.

New Super Mario Bros. U

Lemmy returns once again with the rest of his siblings in New Super Mario Bros. U.

Mario Kart 8

Lemmy appears as an unlockable lightweight racer.

Non canon appearances

Hotel Mario

When Bowser took over the Mushroom Kingdom and built seven hotels, Lemmy's High-ate Agency was one of them. Lemmy fought Mario with a jetpack and also threw paper planes, though Mario was able to close all the doors and sent Lemmy and his hotel flying with his giant fan.

Mario is Missing

Though absent from being a boss, Lemmy helped his dad take over Antarctica. The reason for him not being included is because he was playing in the snow instead.

Super Princess Peach

Though absent from the full game, Lemmy was going to be the boss of World 3 and he could attack by spitting fireballs, spinning around, possibly balancing on his rubber ball, jumping, and crying when hurt. Not much else is known about him.

  • He is named after musician Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister.
  • Iggy used to have rainbow hair, stating the fact that Iggy and Lemmy may have been twins in the cartoon series.
  • He has been given a yellow pony-tail as of New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
  • He is the only Koopaling that doesn't have a magic blast from his wand.
  • In the cartoon, Iggy and Lemmy would finish each other's sentences.
