The Korok are a recurring species and sapient race found in The Legend of Zelda series, first appearing in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. They are tree spirits, servants of the Great Deku Tree, and the guardians of the forests of Hyrule. Under his orders, Koroks fly around and plant trees in order to restore woodlands, destroyed by human foolishness, as well as monsters like Moblins and Bokoblins. It is said that Koroks are only visible to children and those that possess magic and that they are invisible to ordinary folk. Koroks were once Kokiri, the fairy children, living deep within in the Lost Woods, but were forced to abandon their humanoid forms for unknown reasons sometime after the events of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
History[]
Wind Waker[]
In the game, they are known for their ability to fly, and this will be showcased when Link takes control of Makar after he rescues the tiny plant-like being. They take care of the behemoth known as the Great Deku Tree, who has been suggested as a descendant, or at least a sprout of the Great Deku Tree from the Ocarina of Time.
Once a year, the Great Deku Tree sends out the Korok to plant trees all across the Great Sea's many islands in hopes that one day forests will make a return.
Breath of the Wild[]

A Korok in Breath of the Wild.
In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild the Koroks can be found hiding around Hyrule, many behind puzzles or other oddities in the land. When discovered, they will give Link a Korok Seed.
One Korok, Hestu, can increase the number of slots Link uses for weapons, shields, and bows.
Tears of the Kingdom[]
Koroks reappear in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, where their role is mostly the same as in Breath of the Wild. In addition to the hidden Koroks, Koroks with large rucksacks can be seen throughout Hyrule. When spoken to, they will tell Link that they are trying to reach their friend, another Korok, who sends up a green smoke signal. Most of these Koroks are located near objects that make transporting them easier. Once the two Koroks are reunited, Link will be rewarded with two Korok seeds.
Hestu reappears in this game, wit a similar role to before.
