Tecmo Koei is a Japanese company known for great Nintendo classic games such as Ninja Gaiden and Tecmo Super Bowl. Originally known as Tehkan Ltd, their name was changed in 1986 to Tecmo, Ltd. 2008 was a major year for Tecmo: Not only did their primary designer, Tomonobu Itagaki, quit due to legal disputes, but in August of the year Square Enix offered to purchase the company, similar to how they did in 2005 with Taito. Tecmo has later opted to merge with the company Koei instead to call it Tecmo Koei and the merge was made official on April 1, 2009. In North America, games from Tecmo or Koei will now be published by Tecmo Koei America Corporation.
