He's taken over the cavern in which the [[Goron]] got their prominent source of nutrients and food. Before Link entered, the Gorons were famished and desired the enter the cave once more, though not only did the [[Dodongo]]s that infested the area pose a major threat, though the evil [[Gerudo]] tyrant [[Ganondorf]] blocked the entrance by placing a large boulder in front of it.

He eventually came upon him, and in order to thwart him he was required to use his Bomb Bag to toss bombs inside of King Dodongo's mouth when he was sucking in, reading to blow fire. This would stun him for a short time, allowing the player to go in and slash him with your sword. Following this attack, King Dodongo would crawl up in a ball and cruise around the course, attempting to hit you. After crashing into two walls, he'd repeat the process of sucking in, and the player was thus required to toss more bombs in his mouth once more.

King Dodongo is the source of the Dodongo infestation inside Dodongo's Cavern. While the rock-eating Gorons where mining for high quality rocks needed as food they unwittingly stumbled upon King Dodongo and his nest which spilled out into the rest of the mines. When the Gorons sent a message to the King of Hyrule asking for aid, the evil Gerudo tyrant Ganondorf arrived instead and blocked the entrance with a giant boulder, demanding that the Goron chieftain Darunia give him the Goron's Ruby before anything is done about the infestation.

Once Link cheers up Darunia and receives the Goron's Bracelet from him, he'll be able to pick up a Bomb Flower and use it to blow up the boulder, giving him access to the cavern.

King Dodongo is heavily armored and nearly impervious to all of Link's attack but can be defeated by tossing a bomb into his mouth while he's preparing to breathe fire. The bomb will explode inside of his stomach, stunning him and allowing Link a chance to run up and slash his head. Occasionally, King Dodongo will curl up into a ball and roll around the arena attempting to crush Link. After receiving enough damage, King Dodongo will become disoriented and roll into the lava in the center of the room which cooks him alive.
