"Kevin in Videoland" (originally titled "Kevin in Nintendoland" on the original script) is the first episode of Captain N: The Game Master.
Summary[]
The series begins in a universe called Nintendoland Videoland, where Mother Brain's evil forces have spent the last seven years laying siege to the Palace of Power. Inside said Palace, Princess Lana thanks her teammates - Kid Icarus, Mega Man, and Simon Belmont - for their efforts, but fears they cannot hold out much longer. Just then, a mysterious voice comes from the Power Glove they have lying around the palace, saying that a champion from another world is about to come to their aid - Captain N, the Game Master. We then cut to the live-action home of the "Captain" in question - ordinary California teenager Kevin Keene, who is playing Mike Tyson's Punch-Out‼ rather poorly when his TV suddenly glitches out and shows the N Team on his screen. Kevin is then pulled into the TV, with his dog Duke jumping in after him, and lands in the Palace of Power's throne room. After being shocked at meeting three of the heroes from his NES games (and not questioning why none of them look like their actual selves), Kevin is informed by Lana (whom he is smitten with) that the Ultimate Warp Zone brought him here to restore freedom to Videoland. Kevin, however, doesn't think he can handle the responsibility and tries to leave, but the warp closes before he can do so, and Lana goes up to her bedroom to cry.
Mother Brain, watching these events unfold on her viewscreen, is quite pleased to know that the Ultimate Warp Zone bringing Kevin to Videoland has exhausted the Palace's power. She orders her bungling lackeys, King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard, to infiltrate the Palace and kidnap Lana, believing that the rest of the N Team will be no good without her. Arriving at the Palace (they somehow got in rather easily despite Mother Brain's army still trying to break in themselves), the two baddies follow Simon when he's going to Lana's room to try to comfort her and trap him in a bag that they then toss into a warp portal. They then burst into Lana's room and, likely due to having already used the bag on Simon, capture her with her bedroom rug. At that moment, Kevin comes in, wanting to ask Lana if she can give him and Duke another way to go home, and catches the kidnappers in action. In the battle that follows, Kevin figures out how to use the NES Power Pad (which looks more like a regular NES controller) that the Ultimate Warp Zone gave him, but he's not so quick with his NES Zapper. Eggplant Wizard traps Kevin in a giant banana, and he and King Hippo escape with their hostage.
After being freed from the banana by Duke, Kevin runs to inform Mega Man and Kid Icarus (who are trying to barricade the front door against the army outside) that the Princess has been kidnapped, and then relays this information to Simon after he makes it out of the warp portal he was dumped into earlier. The three heroes get into an argument, which Kevin puts a stop to by using the "Pause" function on his Power Pad. Simon pulls out a map from his backpack, deducing that Lana's kidnappers are likely dragging her to Mother Brain's headquarters on Zebes Metroid, and he points to which warp zone he believes will take them there. Kevin, however, is somehow able to figure out which warp they should take, but since he's from the real world and has only been in Videoland for less than fifteen minutes, Simon won't listen to him and uses a coin toss (with a two-headed coin) to get his way. The heroes sneak out of the Palace, somehow avoiding detection from Mother Brain's goons, and jump into the warp that Simon picked out. But as it turns out, Kevin was indeed right, because the warp instead lead to Donkey Kong Island Kongoland and dropped them right in Donkey Kong's bathtub. Needless to say, the one Super Mario Bros. character who made it into this show is not at all happy about his bath being disrupted, and he spends the next several minutes chasing the N Team around. Eventually, the heroes climb their way up a nearby volcano and, thanks to Kevin's "Pause" function, ride some rocks blasting from said volcano out of Kongoland.
The N Team ride the volcano rocks all the way to Metroid, where they see that Lana is being kept captive in a tall tower. Simon, wanting the glory of rescuing her, insists on jumping into a nearby well that he thinks will take him right to Lana, but he is again wrong. Mega Man tosses Kevin high up into the air, and he comes down with such force that he breaks through the tower's ceiling and squishes Kraid, who was preventing Lana from escaping. The other N Team members (except Simon) then enter the tower, but are suddenly locked in. Mother Brain then appears through a hologram to taunt Kevin, and then opens a trap door underneath him, Lana, and Duke, forcing them to traverse the corridors of the asteroid. The trio makes it all the way through, with Kevin blasting the enemies with his Zapper, but when they finally reach Mother Brain, Kevin learns that he's run out of power. Just then, the rest of the N Team shows up, telling Mother Brain that they can defeat her as a team. Simon, showing some competence for once, has his apparently-sentient whip tie up King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard, and then Kid Icarus shoots an arrow at a lever that causes Mother Brain to start spinning uncontrollably (why she has that lever is a mystery), allowing the N Team to escape.
Back at the Palace of Power, which is now free of Mother Brain's invading army, Lana commends Kevin on his heroics. Kevin insists that he still has to get back to his home, so Lana reopens the Ultimate Warp Zone. However, as he's about to head back to his room, Kevin hears his mother telling him that he really needs to do his homework and take out the trash. Not looking forward to enduring the chores that any normal kid has to do, he decides to instead stay in Videoland and help the N Team.
