"Hop Chop Splat Oh-no!" (JPJapanese: ピョン・ズバ・バシャ・イヤー
Romaji: Pyon Zuba Basha Iyā) is a marketing campaign from Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch that originally started in 2022. It is a series of commercials aimed towards children featuring Nintendo's 4 big franchises; Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Splatoon and Animal Crossing. The official English version of the commercial was first available in Nintendo (Southeast Asia).
The commercials are a simple songs sung by children. The title of the series refers to certain onomatopoeia. The "Hop", or Pyon (ピョン) in Japanese, refers to a bouncing sound and is used for jumping in the Mario series. The "Chop" or Zuba (ズバ) refers to a slashing sound and is used for hitting something in The Legend of Zelda series. The "Splat" or Basha (バシャ) refers to a sloshing sound and is used for spreading ink in the Splatoon series. The "Oh-no" or Iyā (イヤー) is an exclamation when something surprising or bad happens and is used for the Animal Crossing series. The Iya transitions to a yay as it finishes its part with scenes depicting celebration. The song ends on a clip of Mario with the last note being the coin sound effect.
