Hidemaro Fujibayashi is a director at Nintendo EPD Production Group No. 3, and the current main director of the main 3D The Legend of Zelda titles ever since Skyward Sword.

History[]

Initially he started at Capcom, where he was involved in a number of games as a planner, including all the portable Zelda titles on the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance which were developed by Capcom.

His work on Zelda led him to leave Capcom and join Nintendo, where he succeeded Eiji Aonuma as the main director of the home console Zelda titles. Initially, he worked as sub-director on Phantom Hourglass on Nintendo DS under Daiki Iwamoto; however, he moved to the main 3D series with Skyward Sword on Wii.

Afterwards, Fujibayashi directed Breath of the Wild on Wii U and Nintendo Switch, and Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch; the former title marked a complete overhaul of the Zelda formula up to that point, as the game took on an open-world style over the traditional linear gameplay.
