Heroes of Ruin is an Action-RPG styled in the fashion of an MMORPG, permitting local and online multiplayer. The player can customize a character out of 4 classes. Square Enix once sent daily challenges to the game.

The game itself begins with the player character being shipwrecked and having to find supplies in a cave.
