The Hero is the main character of Dragon Quest V. Like all protagonists in the Dragon Quest series, the player provides him with a name of his or her choosing.

The Hero of Dragon Quest V is regularly depicted in a purple turban and shroud with a white tunic underneath and an oaken staff held in his left arm (right arm in the DS version). Like his father, he has jet black long hair which he keeps at all times in a ponytail. It is often commented along the game that he has the same eyes as his mother, along with her ability to communicate with monsters.
