A heart piece is an item in The Legend of Zelda series. They are heart shaped crystals imbued with vitality. Collecting enough will form a heart container and increase Link's maximum HP by one heart. In most games, four are required to form a Heart Container but The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess requires five Heart Pieces. Heart Pieces are typically found scattered about Hyrule, often hidden in out of the way locations, although some can be acquired from NPCs by completing side-quests or winning mini-games. Some Zelda games have omitted Heart Pieces, such as the Nintendo DS games The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, though these games still contain Heart Containers that can be acquired by defeating bosses and completing certain optional side-missions.
