Main Article: Hammer Kirby

In the Kirby and Super Smash Bros. series, Kirby would be able to use a hammer to attack enemies. The actions Kirby would do while using the hammer are very similar in each series. In the Super Smash Bros. series, the ability originated in Super Smash Bros. Melee, and went on to appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl too.

The Legend of Zelda series

The hammer is obtained in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and can be used by Link to solve puzzles, break pots, and defeat certain enemies. In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the Megaton Hammer is found after defeating the mini-boss of the Fire Temple and is the only way to defeat the boss, Volvagia. Finally, in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, the Skull Hammer is obtained on the final visit to the Forsaken Fortress after defeating Phantom Ganon and is used to defeat the Helmaroc King.

Super Mario series

The hammer in the Mario series was first introduced in Donkey Kong in the arcades. When Mario obtained a hammer in the game, he would continuously pound the ground, thus destroying any oncoming obstacles. It later appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3, where Mario or Luigi would be able to throw them as projectiles at their enemies. Similar to the Hammer Bros enemy In the first Super Mario Bros Game . The hammer has also appeared in every Mario RPG, where it is a common weapon for Mario to use.
