Golden Plains is a stage in the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U based on World 1 of New Super Mario Bros. 2.

Stage Elements[]

The stage is a scrolling stage with numerous elements from the Mario Platformers like seesaw platforms, pits and mushrooms. There are also a lot of coins around. Collecting them will increasing the Coin Counter in the top right with the counter tracking only the player's coins. Collecting 100 will reset the counter and coat the player in gold. This gold status increases the player's launch power while increasing their ability to resist flinching.

More coins will spawn once the part of the stage is offscreen. In addition, there are P-Switches where blue coins appear for a limited amount of time.

Origin[]

The focus on collectting coins originates from New Super Mario Bros. 2 where a goal was to collect as many Coins as possibly. The game introduced Gold Rings, which turned enemies gold and spawning Coins, and Gold Flower, which was basically a Fire Flower but Mario is Gold (and Luigi is Silver) and their fireballs caused explosions of Coins when they hit something. This is the inspiration for the Gold Fighters.

The middle area of the stage appears to be based off of World 1-1 of New Super Mario Bros. 2, the left section resembling World 1-3, and the right portion appears to be based off of World 1-4.
