The Gerudo Desert is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.

Appearances[]

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess[]

The Gerudo Desert in Twilight Princess is accessible only by using Fyer's cannon, or by warping via a portal, as it was deserted a long time ago. The desert also has a prison built for the worst criminals in all of Hyrule. Prior to the events of the game, the Mirror of Twilight was used to exile Ganondorf to the Twilight Realm after a failed execution, and Zant attempted to destroy the mirror, but failed, because only the real ruler of the Twili has the power to do so, thus, all he could do was break the mirror into pieces.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild[]

The Gerudo Desert in Breath of the Wild is accessible anytime after completing the "Isolated Plateau" main quest, and can be found in southwestern Hyrule. It is very hot during the day, and cold at night, requiring Link to wear clothes or have food or elixirs suited for the elements. Places of interest include Kara Kara Bazaar, Gerudo Town, the Yiga Clan Hideout, and the Gerudo Great Skeleton. The Divine Beast Vah Naboris can be found roaming the East Barrens portion of the desert; Link cannot approach it until he meets with Riju and retrieves the Thunder Helm, due to the sandstorm surrounding the Divine Beast and its potentially lethal lightning attacks. The Gerudo Desert is also home to four Molduga, each appearing in different locations.
