Gear.Club Unlimited is a racing game released for the Nintendo Switch by Microïds. The game was ported from iOS with all the content included for free. The game will also be getting expansions for free.
Gameplay[]
The game is straight forward arcade racer with realistic handling and some performance tweaking. The game's handling leans towards something like Gran Turismo but, the Switch's lack of analog triggers means the face buttons control acceleration and braking. There are racing aids that can be turned off which results in the game behaving like a typical racer (i.e. braking on corners, and timing the gas right.) However, the collisions in this game are pretty arcadey with only a short loss of speed in a race.
The game features many types of races with support for local multiplayer. The only online feature is comparing times.
The game has a garage system which seems to be a vestige of its freemium mobile roots with the garage being slotted with several stations that expand as the game goes on. These stations can be uses to slowly and steadily upgrade the cars.
Development[]
Updates[]
The game is planned to have several free updates. The updates will include new areas and cars. There will also be patches for performance and loading times.
Reception[]
The game received mixed reviews, getting a 65 on Metacritic. The critics found it to be an average racing game with several vestiges of its mobile roots though the game was not hampered too much by it.
