Gargoyles is a Super Nintendo Entertainment System video game that was canceled before its release date in 1996. It is based on Disney's popular animated series of the same name.
The game was mentioned in Nintendo Power V78 (November 1995) as having a release date in November, but was pushed back to January 1996. It was also reviewed briefly in the "subscribers only" section of Nintendo Power V80. Ultimately, the game was never published for the Super NES.
On September 9, 2022, a remake of the game, titled Gargoyles Remastered, was announced to be in development by Empty Clip Studios for release on all platforms, including the Nintendo Switch; it was released on October 19, 2023.
Cancellation[]
Though the Sega Genesis version received positive reviews for its graphics and character animation, low sales resulted in the cancellation of the Super NES version.
Story[]
The story followed the main character Goliath through 11 levels as he battled his way through the Middle Ages and the present day (1990's) after having been awaken from a stone sleep that lasted 1000 years.
