Freedom Planet is a 2D platformer from GalaxyTrail. The game began development as a Sonic the Hedgehog fangame, but it later came into its own intellectual property. A Wii U version was announced in March 2015 and it came to the system later that year. In 2022, a sequel was released, simply titled Freedom Planet 2.

Freedom Planet is a platform and action game in 2D and 16-bit style graphics that mimic the look of the games released for the Sega Genesis, especially the Sonic series.

The game begins as Sash Lilac and Carol anthropomorphic dragon and Wildcat, rescue a duck creature named Torque after his spacecraft crash lands. Of Torque's demand, the three set out to protect a powerful relic called the Kingdom Stone. This involves them in a conflict between the three nations on their planet: Shuigang, a militarized country with its new king, Dail; Mu Shang, led by the mayor obsessed with wealth, Zao; and Shang Tu, whose real Magister is unprepared to war. Lilac and Carol rush to the Stone Kingdom Sanctuary, but are waylaid by official Shang Tu General Gong Li and Neera, who doubt that the Stone is threatened. The protagonists arrive just as the stone was stolen by Spade, a follower of Zao. After the collapse of worship, Carol is separated from Lilac and pinned by rubble, but is saved by the timid Hound Basset Milla.
