Pokemon Yellow title screen

Title screen for Yellow

The first Pokémon generation started with Pokémon Red and Green in Japan, and Pokémon Red and Blue in the rest of the world. These games, coupled with Pokémon Yellow and Pokémon Stadium, are considered the first generation Pokémon games. It introduced 151 species of Pokémon and the region of Kanto. The region is unnamed in the original English games though, the name Kanto being first used in Super Smash Bros. in English. The first generation of games is the basis for all the main Pokémon gameplay as well as Pokémon the Series. The anime itself spawned Pokémon Yellow which borrows many elements from the anime, such as Pikachu as the First partner Pokémon following you rather than staying in a Poké Ball as in the original games.
