Bowser using Fire Breath in Super Smash Bros Brawl.
Fire Breath is a special attack found in the Super Smash Bros. series. It originated in Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GameCube. It is Bowser's Neutral Special, and is near identical to Charizard's Flamethrower. It also shares it's name with Piranha Plant's back aerial.
The move causes the great behemoth to exhale large bursts of fire. Eventually, the amount of fire being released from his mouth decreases, dwindling until it turns into a puff harmless smoke.
Customization[]
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Bowser has these options for Fire Breath,
- Fire Shot - Bowser fires a large fireball projectile that goes through enemies. It is more powerful than the other versions but, there is delay between each shot if held.
- Fire Roar - A more powerful version that runs out quicker
Origin[]
Breathing fire has been a staple of Bowser's character ever since his debut in Super Mario Bros., owing to his draconic appearance and nature. In earlier games, he simply shot fireballs from his mouth, however, starting with Super Mario 64, Bowser gained the ability to breathe a continuous stream of flame, which would later appear in games like Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi and Mario Party.
The actual mechanics for this attack closely resemble Fire Kirby's fire breath in 2D Kirby games starting with Kirby Super Star, where the stream can be angled up or down with the control stick, the only difference being that the attack is obviously nerfed in Smash Bros. so as to lose range overtime. This is made more obvious when Kirby copies Bowser as he poses like he does in Kirby's Adventure and Super Star rather than mimicking Bowser's fire breathing pose.
