Final Fantasy Explorers is Hunting Action game for the Nintendo 3DS by Square Enix. It has many similarities to the Monster Hunter series. Like the title implies, the player plays as classic Final Fantasy classes to fight creatures from the Final Fantasy universe, including various Summons.


As a hunting action, the player takes on quests to take out certain monsters. Players can play together to up to 4 players via the Nintendo Network or local WiFi. Players pair up to 8 abilities to the face controls. Abilities mastered can be used being tied to a certain job.


There are over 20 playable Job Classes, each playing fairly differently:

In addition to these classes, players will have the ability to change into classic Final Fantasy heroes like Cloud Strife or summon other Final Fantasy monsters with this feature called Trance Mode. These characters include:

The game was announced in early June via V Jump with the official site opening later that month. The game's director, wanted this to be an entry-level for players to get into the Action RPG genre.


The first DLC was a set of Final Fantasy VII costumes based on Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa, each for 150 yen.

The second DLC added the Blue mage class for free, Gilgamesh for 400 yen and Final Fantasy X costumes for 150 yen each.

The 3rd DLC was costumes of Lightning, Cecil, and Dissidia version of Bartz, each for 150 yen.

The January Nintendo Direct introduced for free the Samurai class and the boss Omega is available for 400 yen.

When the title was brought over to the West, all the DLC was included for free.

Collector's Edition

When brought over to the West, there was a collectors edition that included in addition to the game, a sample CD called Songs for the Journey, a limited edition artwork box with art by Yoshitaka Amano, a hard case for your Nintendo 3DS, a 40 page limited edition art book and four exclusive unlockable quests that allow the player to forge certain legendary weapons.

These four quests unlock ingredients for the following 4 weapons:

  • Crimson Blitz – from Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13
  • Thyrus – from Final Fantasy 14
  • Venus Gospel – from Final Fantasy 7
  • Death Penalty – from Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7
