Yoshi's Island is part of Dinosaur Land, a collection of islands in the Mushroom Kingdom and Yoshis homeworld.

As seen in the Yoshi series, when Mario was a child, Yoshi's Island had many landscape including grass, mountains, jungles and glaciers where had a many flora and fauna. In the Mario series when it reaches adulthood, everything was extinct leaving only glass, forests lakes and rock mountains. This island is located north of Koopa Kingdom, Bowser's domain.

Yoshi's Island had an important role in Yoshi adventures and Super Mario World. Iggy Koopa resided on the island to his castle be destroyed for plunders saving first Yoshi Egg and Yellow Switch Palace at the summit of Kappa Mountain to the northwest.

Super Smash Bros. series[]

Yoshi's Island is also a stage featured in all three Super Smash Bros. games, though the design of each stage differs between each installment. In Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64, Yoshi's Island resembled a stage from Yoshi's Story and even featured the Super Happy Tree in the background, among other references including the storybook visual direction. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, the Yoshi's Island stage better resembles a stage from Super Mario World and happens to be much bigger. In the background you'll see sprites ripped directly from the SNES video game. Super Smash Bros. Brawl's version arguably best represents the name of the stage - Yoshi's Island, as the stage is dramatically similar to Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
