An unused Assist Trophy, as it appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

An Assist Trophy is an item found in the Super Smash Bros. series, beginning with the Wii game Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It is similar to the Pokéball item, as when thrown, a character from a video game will appear, and will usually have a positive effect for the user who threw it.

Andross Star Fox Based on his appearance in the SNES game Star Fox, he inhales, then blasts opponents with polygons.
Barbara the Bat Jam with the Band Will jam on her guitar, thus generating shockwaves that attack the players.
Devil Devil World The main villain from Devil World, he points in different directions, causing the screen to shift that way, which moves the blast lines as well.
Dr. Wright SimCity Based on the game designer Will Wright and adviser in the SimCity series, he makes tall buildings pop up out of nowhere.
Excitebike Excite In their pixelized forms, variously colored Excitebikers ride into opponents.
Gray Fox Metal Gear From Metal Gear Solid, Gray Fox attacks with swift sword strikes, and also deflects projectiles.
Hammer Bro. Mario This popular Koopa Troopa from the Mario series will toss hammers at opponents.
Helirin Kururin From the Kururin series, this character acts as a temporary rotating platform.
Infantry and Tanks Nintendo Wars A group of soldiers and tanks from the Nintendo Wars series attack but shooting down opponents; their appearances is based on Advance Wars sprites.
Isaac Golden Sun The main character of the Golden Sun series, Isaac will use the synergy power "Move" to push players off the stage.
Jeff Andonuts EarthBound Jeff pulls out his Multi Bottle Rocket 5 and launches rockets (4 small and 1 large) at his opponents.
Jill Drill Dozer The main character of Drill Dozer, Jill drills into opponents.
Kat & Ana Wario A pair of sisters from the WarioWare series, Kat & Ana move across the screen, damaging opponents that touch them. They have the same purpose as Latias and Latios
Knuckle Joe Kirby A popular enemy/helper from Kirby Super Star, he attacks with powerful jabs and punches.
Lakitu and Spinies Mario Also in their pixelized forms, Lakitu flies across the stage, throwing Spinies down at opponents.
Little Mac Punch-Out!! The main character of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, Little Mac attacks with strong punches, and finishes off with his trademark uppercut.
Lyn Fire Emblem From Fire Emblem, the first Fire Emblem game to be released outside of Japan, Lyn appears taking a huge slash out of opponents.
Metroid Metroid From the series of the same name, the Metroid latches onto opponents and sucks away their health.
Mr. Resetti Animal Crossing A mole from the Animal Crossing series who, just like in the games, gives long and boring lectures, which tend to block either the top half of the screen, or the player damage levels, and sometimes the dialogues interact with certain events in the battle. Like Nintendog, he isn't a positive effect for anyone.
Nintendog Nintendogs The Nintendog was the first Assist Trophy character revealed. However, it is one of the few characters that aren't positive for either the tosser or his opponents, as the dog will block the screen.
Ray MK III Custom Robo Will go around the screen shooting the summoner's opposition.
Saki Amamiya Sin & Punishment From Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Earth, Saki attacks using his Sword Cannon, but shooting opponents and slashing them.
Samurai Goroh F-Zero This famed F-Zero racer and Captain Falcon's rival will wield his sword and slash at opponents.
Shadow the Hedgehog Sonic Will slow down time.
Stafy The Legendary Starfy From the Densetsu no Stafy series, Stafy attacks by spinning, but is one of the few Assist Trophies that can be attacked back in Brawl.
Tingle The Legend of Zelda Tingle has several different effects. He can:
  • Inflate balloons, which can lift characters, but not damage them.
  • Spawn many Hammers and Golden Hammers.
  • Make the floor of the stage slippery, making everyone (including the summoner) slip.
  • Be lit on fire, causing everyone to act as if they ate Superspicy Curry.
  • Cause a flower effect, and make the camera zoom in on the summoner.
Waluigi Mario From the Mario series, Waluigi stomps his opponents into the ground, then finishes off with either a powerful kick or by spinning his tennis racket.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

There are 59 Assist Trophies in Ultimate, with 27 new ones, 30 returning from the previous game, and two returning from Brawl. In this game certain Assist Trophies can again be defeated, but this time players can get points in timed battles if they do. In addition multiple Assist Trophies can appear at once, and certain ones can even fight each other if sent out at the same time.
