The Hunter Metroid are the adolescent stage of a Metroid that has been exposed to Tallon IV instead of their native planet of SR388. They appear as enemies in the first Metroid Prime.

Behavior[]

Hunter Metroid look like an advanced form of a Metroid Larva. Instead of becoming more insect-like similarly to the SR388 Metroids, the Hunter Metroid has evolved to take advantage of their jellyfish-like appearance as they grow older. The Hunter Metroid look like the usual Metroid Larva but with an elongated head and two long eergy siphoning tentacles that dangles from the bottom of their base. Their four fangs are now also of an approximately equal size and are arranged like a hook. Those fangs are relatively useless as the long tentacles are how the Hunter Metroid hunts. Due to the lenght of their appendages, they can now drain creatures from a longer distance and remain safe from a potential counterattack. They also appear to have a darker membrane than the younger larvae.

Due to these characteristics, they are unable to be shaken off by a bomb when they attach themselves onto Samus Aran. The fact that they are at a reasonable distance while they are siphoning her turns into a weakness as Samus has an easier time shooting at them instead. Their other method of attack is a ram attack. Unlike SR388 Metroids, the Tallon IV Metroids are weak to almost all of Samus' equipement. The Hunter Metroid have apparently developed some resistance to cold while evolving on Tallon IV. They can now live in cold environments and some can be found in Phendrana Drifts as well as the Phazon Mines and the Impact Crater. They are still weak to the Ice Beam's freezing cold, however.

Logbook Entry[]

"As Metroids develop, they become more efficient predators. An energy-draining tentacle allows them to attack at a distance. Quick to anger, a Hunter Metroid will charge troublesome prey and attempt to ram them into submission. Cold-based attacks are still quite effective against these creatures."
