Athena is a Japanese video game developer and publisher, who produced video games for a variety of different consoles throughout the 1990s.

Taking on a relatively obscure profile, the majority of the company's video games have been restricted to the native Japanese market. Some have made it overseas though, primarily the company's large inventory of bowling games.

The company has also produced a series of mahjong games - a Japanese puzzle - under their Pro Mahjong Kiwame range, along with a few Dezaemon action shoot-ups.

History[]

The company had originated in 1987 as a gaming-based company, though their first officially recorded video game came to light in 1988 as a TV-show based quiz. [1] The company's title is named after the goddess of wisdom in the Greek mythology. [2]
