The previous game in the series was released four years prior to this game, as the FIFA World Cup takes place every four years (similar to other major sporting events). The game received mostly positive reviews, IGN giving the GCN version an 8.0 and the Nintendo DS version a 7.5 out of 10. The game has 9 different covers, one for each major nation. Each cover has a major soccer (or European football) player on it.
