Elite Four

The Sinnoh Elite Four.

The Elite Four is a group of Pokémon trainers from the Pokémon series. They are some of the strongest trainers in their respective regions, as recognized by the Pokémon League and are hired to test prospective champions abilities in battle. In order to become champion of the Pokémon league, a trainer with eight gym badges must defeat each member of the Elite Four without stopping to rest or heal at a Pokémon Center, and if they lose, they will have to try again from the start.

Once the player has defeated the Elite Four and the current Champion, they are known as the strongest trainer in their region. In most Pokémon games, the Elite Four act as the Final Boss standing between the main character and their dream to become "The very best".

In addition to testing powerful trainers, the Elite Four are sometimes shown to enforce Pokémon League rules, being called in to fight criminal Pokémon trainers or destructive Pokémon, as we see Lance doing in Pokémon Gold and Silver and Steven in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.

Information[]

Each member of the Elite Four has 5-6 Pokémon of a certain type, so it is recommended your bring a party of six different Pokémon types. It is also recommended to bring as many healing items as you can afford.

Trivia[]

  • Kanto and Johto share an Elite Four with one another, though the overall lineup has changed, as Pokémon Gold and Silver take place three years after the events of Pokémon Red and Blue. In that time, Lorelei and Agatha have been replaced by Will and Karen, with Lorelei likely having returned to her home in the Sevii Islands to care for the Lapras and Agatha's status unknown. Lance has regained his title as league champion, while Red has gone off to parts unknown to train. And lastly, Koga, former Gym Leader of Fuchsia City has been recognized by the Pokémon League and received a promotion, leaving his gym to his daughter and star pupil Janine.
  • Caitlin shows one of the few cases of continuity in the Pokémon universe. She was the much younger head of the Battle Castle in Generation IV while in Generation V, she's a member of the Elite Four as an adult
  • Kalos' Elite Four are all named after genus of trees and shrubs.
