Elfilin is a major character in Kirby and the Forgotten Land who serves as Kirby's main ally/partner over the course of his adventure.
Physical Appearance[]
Elfilin is a greenish-blue floating chinchilla-esque creature. He is shown to have big ears akin to that of an elephant's, with a large, rounded nick in the right ear, a small, reddish-orange nose, and blue eyes and rosy cheeks similar to that of Kirby's. Elfilin has small stubby limbs much like Kirby himself, his arms being around half as big as his head, which is about the size of his torso, and his feet are about the same length.
After his physical form is devoured by Fecto Forgo, who recombines with him to form Fecto Elfilis, Elfilin is visible as a tiny starlike point of light in the aberration's then-spherical body.
Games[]
Kirby and the Forgotten Land[]
In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Elfilin aids Kirby in his rescue of Waddle Dees and travels around with him in Waddle Dee Town.
Prior to the events of the game, Elfilin and Fecto Forgo comprised two halves of Fecto Elfilis, a creature captured by scientists. Elfilin detached himself and escaped due to a warp incident in the lab while Fecto Forgo went into stasis. Fecto Forgo used his spatial warp powers to bring parts of Dream Land to his own dimension, including the Waddle Dees. The Beast Pack captured many of the Waddle Dees to use as a power source for Fecto Forgo. Elfilin is captured by the Beast Pack while helping the Waddle Dees during a raid on Waddle Dee Town, which the Waddle Dees had just started to build together, but he is quickly saved by Kirby, who was also brought through the vortex. However, he is still concerned about the well-being of the other Waddle Dees who were captured and feels obliged to save them, with Kirby quickly agreeing to help him do this. Together, they explore the Forgotten Land and free any caged Waddle Dees that they find along the way.
Unfortunately, though this initially goes smoothly for a little while, in the fourth world, Winter Horns, Elfilin is captured by a brainwashed King Dedede and brought back to Lab Discovera, where the Beast Pack and Fecto Forgo are based. Kirby heads through the next two worlds to save his friend, and when Kirby arrives, he encounters the Beast Pack's leader Leongar, who explains Elfilin's origins, specifically that Elfilin is the missing half of the Great One (who would later turn out to be Fecto Elfilis, the true identity of the ID-F86 being that was captured by scientists during an invasion). Kirby battles and defeats Leongar, rescuing Elfilin, but shortly after, Fecto Forgo absorbs Leongar and the rest of the Beast Pack, surging forth as a monstrous multi-headed predator in his attempts to devour and recombine with Elfilin.
Kirby defeats Fecto Forgo, but his victory is short-lived and they still manage to absorb Elfilin, turning into Fecto Elfilis. After Kirby fights Fecto Elfilis, he rescues Elfilin from a dome on Fecto Elfilis's back. In a last resort as his body crumbles, Fecto Elfilis attempts to crash Planet Popstar into the Forgotten Land, but Kirby, powered by Elfilin, fights back and destroys Fecto Elfilis's physical form. Back in Dream Land, the rift is still open, and Elfilin decides to use the rest of his power to close the rift, although he risks not seeing Kirby again by doing so, and tearfully wishes his friend farewell as the vortex disappears from the skies of Dream Land along with himself. Kirby is saddened that his friend was gone, but a blue glow appears behind the pink puffball which causes him to smile happily, implying that Elfilin came back. This is then confirmed in the pictures that are shown over the credits, with Elfilin later confirming that Clawroline found him after he expended his power, and she nursed him back to health. With his power and health restored, Elfilin rejoins Kirby and the two could now travel back and forth between their worlds whenever they wished to. As also shown in the pictures, now that they were free of Fecto's influence, the Beast Pack members had turned friendly, and became friends to the two of them and the Waddle Dees.
However, their leader, Leongar, was still missing, which worried Clawroline. Sometime later, she noticed a dimensional rift that had opened on the Observation Tower in Waddle Dee Town. Elfilin and Kirby investigate before being sucked in by the rift, being taken to Isolated Isles: Forgo Dreams, a world created by Fecto Forgo's dreams when they were trapped within the Eternal Capsule. There, Fecto Forgo's soul, known as Soul Forgo, had begun creating an army of phantom beasts and plotted to use Leongar's body as their vessel, shattering his soul into 300 pieces and scattering them throughout the Isolated Isles. Determined to repay Clawroline back for saving him, Elfilin set out with Kirby to collect the pieces of his soul before arriving at the spot where Leongar's body was being kept. Elfilin takes the collected soul pieces and gives them to Leongar, who reawakens and celebrates with the two, only for his mind to once again get taken over by Soul Forgo. Soul Forgo, using the resulting Forgo Leon as a puppet, then attempts to fight off Kirby and Elfilin, but Leongar is defeated, exorcising Soul Forgo out of his body. Soul Forgo prepares to fight the two heroes themself, but a butterfly flutters in from outside, lands on their face, consumes them, and uses their power to become Morpho Knight, who then attacks Kirby and Elfilin. Kirby defeats Morpho Knight, after which the two of them attempt to wake Leon, but their efforts prove futile. The two look down in sadness, believing he had perished in the ordeal, before Clawroline and the rest of the Beast Pack arrive with more soul pieces that they had collected. They all give the pieces to Leon, fully restoring him. Kirby, Elfilin and the Beast Pack celebrate Leon's restoration before returning to their dimension.
Sometime later, a dimensional rift opened in the Colosseum in Waddle Dee Town. Kirby and Elfilin enter it in the Ultimate Cup Z, traveling through another realm to face off against Fecto Forgo's phantom creations yet again. In the final battle, the two make their way back to the top of Lab Discovera, where they discover Chaos Elfilis, a newer and more powerful form that Fecto Elfilis had taken after Morpho Knight was defeated. After this happened, Soul Forgo was able to turn the tables and absorb their power, becoming Chaos Elfilis and teleported away after the last battle with no one noticing, now intent on using their new form for another attempt at revenge on Kirby. Kirby and Chaos Elfilis engage in a grueling final battle, which culminates in Kirby defeating Chaos Elfilis and causing them to dissipate into particles of light. The last, surviving piece of their essence, in the form of a light particle, floats down to Elfilin, who absorbed it into himself, putting an end to Fecto Forgo and allowing the two halves to become one permanently.
Kirby's Dream Buffet[]
Elfilin makes a cameo appearance in this game, where a hat in his image is an accessible clothing article.
Trivia[]
- Etymology: Elfilin derives his name from the term "elfin," which means "pertaining to an elf."
- The missing part of Elfilin's ear may be a reference to the practice of clipping holes in the ear of a lab rat. In the game itself, it shows how he is an incomplete being, as Fecto Forgo has an imperfect left ear in his larva form.
- There was a lot of speculation before Kirby and the Forgotten Land came out that Elfilin would likely betray Kirby similarly to how Magalor and Marx did, but when the game actually came out, this was essentially proven false; while he is indeed connected to Fecto Elfilis, the true main antagonist of the game, since he was their missing half, he was only forcefully assimilated by Fecto Elfilis in the climax so they could regain their true form and full power. However, he never personally opposed Kirby, and once he was freed from his other half once again, he helped Kirby save both worlds and remained his ally and friend in the post-game.
