Edelgard von Hresvelg is a playable character in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. She is the heiress apparent to the Adrestian Empire and acts as the leader of the Black Eagles house.

Byleth acts as Edelgard's instructor at the Officer's Academy if the Black Eagles are chosen. She appears to specialize in axes and she seems able to hone skills for both outside of battles.

Edelgard's father is Emperor Ionius von Hresvelg IX and her mother is Empress Anselma von Arundel, who took the alias Patricia when she was visiting Faerghus during the Insurrection of the Seven and married King Lambert.

Her Fódlan birthday is 22nd of the Garland Moon of Imperial Year 1162, which translates to June 22nd, 1162 on the Gregorian calendar.

Personality and Appearance

Edelgard has long, white hair with light purple bows at her side. She has similar light purple eyes. She also wears an Officer's Academy uniform with red tights and a red cape to symbolize her leadership of the Black Eagles.

After timeskip, Edelgard's hair is put in side buns and with horns extending out similar to The Immaculate One's horns with a piece of golden jewelry in the middle wearing a dress with the Adrestian Empire's twin-headed golden eagle symbol on the back.

Before the events of the game, Edelgard had light brown hair before her pigment was taken away.

History

Spoiler warning: The following information contains spoilers. Please read at your own risk.

Edelgard was born in Imperial Year 1162 as the ninth child of Emperor Ionius IX and empress consort Anselma von Arundel, therefore the princess of the Adrestian Empire. Because she had a Crest and her siblings did not, she was then proclaimed as the heiress. When she was 9 in Imperial Year 1171, she was taken by her uncle, Lord Volkhard von Arundel, to Fhirdiad in the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus during the Insurrection of the Seven. Volkhard was one of the key conspirators to the coup along with Duke Aegir, stripping the emperor of most of his power. Unknown to Volkhard or Edelgard, Edelgard's mother, the empress of Adrestia, had actually taken the alias Patricia and married Lambert, the king of Faerghus. She then later met and befriended Prince Dimitri, where Dimitri gave her a dagger. She held on to it despite forgetting how she obtained it.

When Edelgard returned to the Empire, she found that her father was nothing more than a puppet to help the other nobles obtain power. Alongside with her ten siblings, Crest experiments were done on her by those who slither in the dark to make the princes and princesses of the Adrestian Empire have the Crest of Flames. The magic was proved to be too powerful, killing all of Edelgard's siblings. However, because Edelgard had a Crest, she was able to withstand it without dying. While she was able to survive, it was too powerful that it turned her hair white and she got a second Crest, the Crest of Flames, which greatly shortened her lifespan.
