Earthworm Jim is a platform video game with run and gun elements, produced on a wide variety of consoles in the mid-1990s. Originally produced for the Game Gear console of the rivals Sega, modified ports were later dished out to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy in 1994/5.
The game takes on a traditional platformer gameplay but blends this with elements of shooting whilst in motion. The main star of the game is a character called Jim who has to use his worm-like abilities to fight and escape enemies whilst protecting a damsel-in-distress.
One of the most popular and well-received games of 1994, the game has seen a considerable number of re-releases including an extension of Game Boy's port to the succeeding Game Boy Advance at its launch, followed up with a reincarnation of the original Sega game on the Virtual Console service for the Wii in 2008.
Furthermore, a revamped HD version was produced for the Xbox 360 and PS3 systems which also included a downloadable port on Nintendo's DSiWare service.
Plot[]
The game involves an earthworm named Jim, as he finds the "Ultra-high-tech-indestructible-super-space-cyber-suit", built by Professor Monkey-For-A-Head, which was stolen by Psy-Crow who accidentally lands on Earth. The suit in question was commissioned by the evil Queen Slug-for-a-Butt to help her conquer the galaxy. Jim sets out across the galaxy to stop the Queen and rescue her sister, Princess What's-Her-Name.
