Dragon Quest Builders is a Dragon Quest spin-off released on the Nintendo Switch. The game is an exploratory action adventure game similar to Minecraft. The game is about the player rebuilding the world after it was destroyed. Nintendo is distributing the game outside of Japan.

Gameplay

The player gathers blocks and builds camps and villages from them which level up from how much it is built up. The monsters that get in the player's way are various Dragon Quest monsters. On top of managing their towns, players must keep track of their health and eat food regularly.

Plot

The game is set in the world of the original Dragon Quest, Alefgard, in an alternate timeline where the hero of the original game accepted the Dragonlord's deal to rule half the world. The deal turned out to a trap, leading to the hero's demise and the world being overrun with monsters. The player is selected to be a builder and collect material from around to world to rebuild Alefgard from scratch.

Reception

Dragon Quest Builders received "generally favorable" reviews from critics according to Metacritic with a current Metascore of 81/100. It also earned an aggregate rating (playscore) of 8.34 on whatoplay.com based on 31 critics.
