Epic Mickey is a video game exclusively released for the Wii. It was developed by Junction Point Studios and published by Disney Interactive Studios. The game was released on November 30, 2010 in North America. The game was produced by Warren Spector, the creator of the popular Deus Ex and Thief series. The gameplay features a paint system similar to Okami. Its sequel, Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, was released in late 2012.

Synopsis

A long time ago, Mickey Mouse accidentally stumbled into the workshop of Yen Sid, where he was putting the finishing touches on a home for all of Disney's forgotten creations. While mixing the paint and thinner, Mickey accidentally creates the Shadow Blot and tries to get rid of him using the paint thinner nearby. While Mickey desperately attempts to repair the damage, Yen Sid comes rushing to the room. Mickey runs away, leaving the paint thinner and the monster he created to leak into the world Yen Sid created. Many years later, the Shadow Blot reaches from the world of forgotten characters and drags Mickey into it, forcing Mickey to gain the trust of the skeptical inhabitants of Wasteland, face the chaos and destruction he caused and return home to the Cartoon World.

Gameplay

The game features the brush mechanism, where the player can aim with the Wii remote to either paint things in, or make them disappear thinner. The player's decisions can change parts of the game, such as other characters' opinions on Mickey, and more subtle changes such as slower music or the blot drops coming off of Mickey. The player controls Mickey using traditional 3D platforming mechanics. Mickey can move around, jump, hang on to edges of platforms, and use a spin move to activate gears, obtain collectibles, and knock enemies away. The combat involves either using paint to redeem enemies, or thinner to thin them into nothingness. Redeemed enemies no longer attack Mickey and will help him by fighting nearby hostile enemies. Alternatively, Mickey can use his spin move to knock enemies off edges and into thinner.

The player can control Mickey's path in Wasteland through the way they defeat enemies and the choices that they make. Decisions typically revolve around making a moral choice between good and bad. These choices influence the collectibles that can be unlocked, the ease of getting past obstacles, and the cutscene at the end of the game.
