Disgaea 1 Complete (Makai Senki Disgaea Refine in Japan) is a HD remake of the original entry in the Disgaea series of strategy role-playing games by Nippon Ichi Software. The title had previously been ported to the DS as Disgaea DS. This title has been optimized for the Switch and includes the Etna Mode the PSP version.

The game is an over-the-top tactical role-playing game. Players move their characters around a small map to defeat all the enemies. To defeat the enemies, the characters perform excessive attacks with fancy animations and visual effects. Defeating enemies will earn the character XP which will raise the character's stats until they reach the level cap of 9999. The damage dealt will also rise exponentially over the course of the game.

In addition to the primary characters, the player can create generic characters to fill in various roles. Advanced classes need to be unlocked by fulling certain conditions in the story. The following is a list of basic classes:

  • Warrior
  • Martial Artist
  • Mage
  • Healer
  • Magic Knight
  • Samurai
  • Thief
  • Archer
  • Ninja

In the Netherworlds, the long reign of King Krichevskoy came to a sudden end with his death. This caused numerous demons to strike their ambitions and try and take over the world, causing an era of anarchy. Meanwhile, the king's son, Laharl had just woken from his long nap, and just learned what had happened. He boldly claims to show them no mercy in his journey to reclaim the title of Overlord with his vassals, Etna and Flonne.
