DinFire

Din's Fire is an item that appears in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It is a magic spell that embodies the Goddess Din and her flaming arms, used to shape the land of Hyrule. As an item Din's Fire resembles a rhombus shaped crystal with a red and orange fireball visible inside. While the other two magical abilities in the game, Nayru's Love and Farore's Wind, are used for defense and travel respectively, Din's Fire is an offensive spell used to attack enemies. Once cast, Link will toss a ball of magical fire at the ground which expands and surrounds him dramatically harming enemies in the radius. Of the three magic spells, Din's Fire is the only one that isn't optional as it's required for lighting a ring of torches to enter the Shadow Temple.

The Legend of Zelda series[]

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time[]

Din's Fire is the easiest of the three Great Fairy magics to obtain and can be found in a cave near Hyrule Castle. Once Link has obtained bombs from Death Mountain, he can blow open the entrance to the cave and play Zelda's Lullaby to talk to the Great Fairy of Magic inside.

The twins in Hyrule Castle Town hint at the Great Fairy's existence, talking of rumors of a beautiful fairy queen and saying that they tried to sneak into the castle to see her but were caught and thrown out.

Super Smash Bros. Series[]

Princess Zelda can use Din's Fire as a special attack in the Super Smash Bros. series, debuting in Super Smash Bros. Melee and returning in all later installments. The move is Zelda's side B move, which when executed will cause Zelda to release a ball of flames. You'll be capable of controlling where it goes, though not entirely. Once the ball is close enough to one of your opponents, you'll be able to press B to make it explode.

Trivia[]

  • Originally Din's Fire was going to be a spell that Link received after obtaining the Fire Medallion and would have been cast by using the medallion as an item. This is why the game says that Darunia "adds his power to yours!" after he gives you the medallion.
  • At one point during development of Ocarina of Time, magic would have exclusive to adult Link. This was intended to show Link's increased power as an adult as well as his increased connection to the magically adept Hylian people. In the final game, kid Link can use the three fairy magics, charged spin attack and Len's of Truth, however he's unable to use the elemental arrows as he's not strong enough to pull the Fairy Bow's arrow string.
  • The crystals used to represent the magic spells in Link's inventory in Ocarina of Time resembles the ones that the maidens were trapped in in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
