The Demae Channel (JP), unofficially nicknamed the Food Delivery Channel in English, was a Wii Channel exclusive to Japan released on May 26, 2009. It was developed by Denyusha, published by Nintendo, and operated by Demaecan. The service allowed users to order food through their Wii console. Users could choose from a variety of restaurants and then order what they wanted to eat. Following this, the restaurant closest to the user would send their order out after preparing it. If the user didn't know what they were in the mood for, they could use the roulette mode which would select something at random. There was also a version of the Demae Channel launched on August 8, 2013 for the Wii U, renamed to Demaecan, the name of the company that operated the channel. Accessing the channel on the Wii U simply took the user to Demaecan's website, as opposed to the Wii version, which featured its own original design and menus. Service was discontinued for both the Wii and Wii U versions on March 31, 2017, with the channel having been removed from the Wii Shop Channel and the Nintendo eShop on February 22 that same year. The Demae Channel was unofficially available through WiiLink post-shutdown, though users who wish to order real food must install a separate version that allows this. It is unknown if it is still available as of 2024.
In english, Demae translates to Delivery. Thus, its english name would be Delivery Channel.
Basic Function & Features[]
When the user first opened the channel, they would see different food genres. After the user selected a type, a list of restaurants, stores, and services would be displayed, which varied based on the user's location. It also would display opening and closing times, as well as give users an ETA for their orders. Once they chose a restaurant, the user would be shown a large variety of options to choose from, such as size, ingredients, type, and toppings. Once the order was finished and placed, users would pay upon delivery, and receive their order. A receipt would be sent to the console's Wii Message Board containing the ordered product.
There was also additional features for users to utilize if they desired. The usage of coupons was allowed, for users to order at discount prices. Users also had the option to place items on a favorites list. Another feature was an order history in which users could see their previous orders placed within the Channel. In addition to these features, users also could request new restaurants, stores, and services be added, with Demaecan noting that over a thousand new stores would be requested each month. Like other Wii Channels, the Demae Channel has a soundtrack with a different theme for each menu and food genre.
Demae Channel did not use WiiConnect24 in order to operate, and remained fully functional after WiiConnect24 was discontinued.
