Deku Scrubs are creatures in The Legend of Zelda series, debuting in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. They are one of the few Zelda creatures to appear both as enemy monsters and as a neutral NPC race. Deku Scrubs are a dryad or spriggan-like race of plant people that live in the forests and disguise themselves as bushes in order to surprise unwary travelers. Like the Snifits from the Mario series, they shoot at the player. However, when cornered they will surrender, after which they will sometimes offer to sell something or provide secrets. In The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Link is turned into a Deku Scrub at the start of the game, becoming Deku Link. Later on in the Southern Swamp, he comes across an entire society of Deku Scrubs led by the Deku King. Deku Scrubs are able to hover for awhile using the leaves sprouting out of their heads as a propeller. They live in Deku Pods and use them to launch themselves into the air. They fire Deku Nuts.
