Darkrai (ダークライ, Dākurai) is a Dark type Legendary Pokémon first appearing in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. It is one of the Template:PKMNcount types of Pokémon from the series of the same name. It is a mysterious ghost-like Pokémon who even stared in a movie called Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai. Despite it's looks, it isn't Ghost-type. It also appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a trophy.

Darkrais are genderless. They can travel quickly by turning into a shadow, and perhaps its most notable ability is being able to trap people's nightmares. Another Pokémon named Cresselia is capable of reversing this effect. One move that is exclusive to Darkrai, called Dark Void, is best used in team battles as it is capable of making both opposing Pokémon fall asleep. In Diamond and Pearl, Darkrai is found on an island called Newmoon Island.

Physiology

Darkrai appears to be a black shadow-like Pokémon with a small head and a white ghostly substance coming out from its head. It also has light blue eyes and small skinny arms with black claw-like hands with three fingers. It also appears to be wearing a ripped cloak and skinny legs that can come in and out of it. He also appears to have a red torso around it.

Abilities

It gives never-ending nightmares to humans and has the ability Bad Dreams which allows him to give Pokémons and humans nightmares when asleep. They can be awoken by using Cresselia's Lunar Wing. He is also the only known Pokémon to use Dark Void. He also possibly eats humans and Pokémons' dreams.

Appearances

Main Pokémon games

Darkrai can be found on Newmoon Island in the games Diamond, Pearl and Platinum and can only be obtained in HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black, and White via trading.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Trophy Description

A Pitch-Black Pokémon. It becomes active on nights of the new moon. This legendary Pokémon has the power to lull people to sleep and fill their heads with dreams. Proverbs say that Darkrai will make people have terrifying dreams on moonless nights. A Dark-type Pokémon, Darkrai uses the Dark Void move, along with Embargo, which stops foes from using held items.

In the anime

Darkrai was the "mascot" of the Pokémon movie called The Rise of Darkrai. In the beginning of the movie, many thought that the Pokémon was an evil creature, though in the end it was revealed to have a good heart when it went off to stop the fighting between rival Pokémon Palkia and Dialga. After sacrificing itself to save the world, Palkia used its powers to turn everything back to normal, thus reviving Darkrai.
