Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2: Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Kakugo (JP) is the sequel to the 2015 game Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Bōken released on the 3DS in 2017. Like the last entry, the player experiences the cases of Phoenix Wright's ancestor, Naruhodo Ryunosuke, with it wrapping up the loose ends from the first game.
Like the first game, the main gameplay uses the investigation and trial formula the series is known for but, takes advantage of Sherlock Holmes's investigative skills to have Joint Reasoning between him and Ryunosuke. This mechanic has Holmes rapid-fire a train of logic with Ryunosuke pointing out the contradictions by looking at the scene closer resulting in the proper conclusion. The game adds the fingerprint dusting mechanic back from earlier entries in the series.
For trials, the game shares similarities to those in Professor Layton Vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney with cross-examining multiple witnesses and a jury system. The jurors can change their decision throughout the trial though once all of them vote guilty, Ryunosuke has the chance to directly examine the jurors to convince them otherwise.
The game is split into five separate main episodes with two what-if scenarios as pre-order bonuses:
The Adventure of the Blossoming Attorney
The Memoirs of the Clouded Kokoro
The Return of the Great Departed Soul
Twisted Karma and His Last Bow
The Resolve of Naruhodō Ryūnosuke
