Cosmog is a small Pokémon with a gaseous body similar to a nebula. The gases that make up its body range in color from violet to light blue. The very center of its body is black both in front and back. The black space on the front contains its face, which consists of beady yellow eyes, circular blue cheeks, and a small mouth. The space on the back has only a single blue dot. There is a golden half-circlet on both the top and bottom half of its body, which divides it exactly in half. Two wispy extensions containing starry specks serve as its arms. Cosmog's gaseous body makes it one of the lightest Pokémon in existence.
Cosmog's body is frail and easily blown away. However, it is carefree and doesn't seem to mind. It collects dust from the atmosphere, which allows it to grow slowly. Cosmog has the ability to warp itself and those close to it. Professor Mohn's research tells that Cosmog can also open Ultra Wormholes when under extreme stress. This process is very dangerous for Cosmog, and the use of its powers can leave it immobile for extended periods of time, or even fatal when used improperly. According to Lusamine, the gases from Cosmog can also be extracted to create Ultra Wormholes. Cosmog is theorized by the Aether Foundation to be a type of Ultra Beast, and its name was coined by one of the professors at the Foundation. In ages past, it was known as the “child of the stars”. In behavior, Cosmog has an overly trusting nature and it immediately takes a liking to whoever shows it kindness, even when that person doesn't have the best intentions for it. Cosmog is known to be very curious but not very cautious, this behavior has often led to Cosmog willingly put itself in danger, only to teleport away in case things get dicey. This Pokémon can also be created by Solgaleo and Lunala. The Guardian deities watch and protect Cosmog until it fully evolves and returns to Ultra Space to repeat the cycle.
Appearances[]
Main Games[]
In the introduction, Lillie escapes the Aether Foundation with Cosmog, nicknamed Nebby, in her bag. Throughout the story Nebby repeatedly wanders away from Lillie, but no real harm comes about until the climax of the game where Team Skull takes Lillie to Aether Paradise where it is used to open holes to Ultra Space. It then evolves into Cosmoem and then Solgaleo/Lunala, where it eventually officially joins the player. In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Nebby played the same role and this time, fuses with Necrozma to become Dusk Mane/Dawn Wings (and later Ultra) Necrozma.
Another one becomes available in the post-game at the Lake of the Sunne/Moone in the alternate world accessed through the Altar of the Sunne/Moone with Nebby in the party.
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, A Cosmog nicknamed Fwoofy resides with an elderly woman in Freezington. Once the player stops Glastrier's/Spectrier's attack on the village, the woman offers to let Fwoofy travel with the player.
Pokémon spin-offs[]
In the anime[]
A Cosmog nicknamed Nebby debuted in A Dream Encounter!. In Faba's Revenge!, it evolved into Cosmoem, which then evolved into a Solgaleo in Revealing the Stuff of Legend!. Since then, Nebby made recurring appearances in the anime.
In Pokémon Evolutions, a Cosmog nicknamed Nebby briefly appeared in a flashback. It later evolved into Lunala.
Origin[]
Cosmog may be based on a molecular cloud, a type of nebula where star formation occurs.
Cosmog has the lowest base stat total of all Legendary Pokémon.
Cosmog has the smallest movepool of all Legendary Pokémon, with only two moves that it can learn.
Despite Cosmog is not an Ultra Beast, the Aether Foundation has hypothesized Cosmog is also an Ultra Beast, due to its ability to create Ultra Wormholes.
Cosmog's evolution into Cosmoem has the greatest standard deviation of all Pokémon, with 47.14, meaning that the changes to its base stats on evolving are the most uneven of all Pokémon.
Cosmog is the lightest Psychic-type Pokémon, the lightest Legendary Pokémon, and tied for the lightest Pokémon. Its evolution, Cosmoem, is the heaviest or joint-heaviest (joint with Celesteela for heaviest Pokémon) in all these categories, making it the only evolution line to hit both extremes of any measurement or stat.
Cosmog is the first Legendary Pokémon with an evolution line, and its evolutions, Solgaleo and Lunala, are the first box Legendaries with a line. It is currently one of three Legendary evolution lines, the other being Type: Null and Kubfu.
