The Chykka is a huge dragonfly-like monstrosity, and the guardian of the Dark Torvus Temple. It starts out as a larva before quickly maturing into an adult, then turns into a Dark Chykka after exposure to Dark Aether's poisonous waters.
Battle[]
Upon returning the three keys needed to access the Dark Torvus Temple, water fills the room, raising the platform Samus is standing on into the main upper-level portion of the room, where the Chykka is sleeping in a cocoon. Four supports hold up the cocoon. Samus must destroy the supports, causing the cocoon to fall into the water, and the Chykka Larva to hatch.
Larva Form[]
The Chykka Larva swims in circles around Samus's platform. Dark Shredders constantly come out of the water and try to get close to Samus before exploding; luckily, she can shoot them before they get to her, giving her means to replenish health and ammo. Now and then, the Chykka Larva jumps out of the water and crashes back down, sending out a shockwave to try and knock Samus into the water. It also leaps onto the platform and ensnares her with its tongue. This provides her with a chance to attack the creature head-on, however, only beam weapons will work. After finishing off the Chykka Larva, the water lowers a little bit, and Samus's platform splits into three separate parts, each with a Light Crystal built in. The Chykka is shown to have formed into a chrysalis, then becomes an adult.
Adult Form[]
Despite its size, the adult Chykka is considerably fast. Its primary means of attack involves firing blasts of water at Samus; it will also fly directly at her before circling around above her. The platforms' floatation devices function erratically from time to time. They shake before sinking into the water, requiring Samus to get to another platform using the Grapple Points. Samus can stun the Chykka by shooting at it, then while it's stunned, get behind it and shoot the weak points on its four wings.
Once all four wings have been shot, the Chykka falls into the water, sending out a shockwave that Samus must avoid. A few seconds later, the Chykka emerges from the water and transforms into a Dark Chykka. Its attacks include bursts of dark energy and releasing swarms of Chyklings that Samus can kill for health and ammo. Like other Dark Aether creatures, the Light Beam is the best weapon to use against the Dark Chykka. Samus must aim for the abdomen to inflict damage. After a certain amount of time, the Dark Chykka goes back to its regular form, requiring Samus to shoot the wings again. When the Chykka is finally defeated, it falls into the water, which recedes, leaving behind the Dark Visor next to the Chykka's corpse.
