Choose Your Legends is an annual event for Fire Emblem Heroes. During the event, players vote on which characters from the Fire Emblem series will get special Brave versions of themselves later in the year. Choose Your Legends first started in 2017, and has occurred every year since then. The characters that win are the top two men and top two women.
Choose Your Legends voting occurs on Nintendo's website. Voters can vote once per day, but if they want to view their previous votes, they need a My Nintendo Account. Starting with the 2019 vote, characters with multiple versions of themselves have all of their versions counted as one character. For example, if one votes for Mia in Radiant Dawn and another for Mia in Path of Radiance, both votes will count for Mia. The version that gets in depends on which of these has more votes. The same happens with most characters from Three Houses, where both Academy Arc and War Arc can be voted for. This does not apply with Monica, whose Three Houses and Three Hopes appearances have had separate vote counts since 2024. Other characters who don't have pooled votes include those with drastic changes like Tiki, who appears as a child in one game and an adult in another, or characters with selectable genders such as Robin. If a character wins, they will not appear in any Choose Your Legends votes after that.
To vote, one can either select the game their desired character is from and find them from a list, or they can hit the random button, which selects a random character. The voter can then choose if they want to vote for that character or not.
Partway through the voting, interim results are posted on the Fire Emblem Heroes Twitter account.

Shadows Cup[]
Shortly before the main Choose Your Legends vote was held, a new vote was held called the Shadows Cup. Similar to Choose Your Legends, players were able to vote for a hero once per day. Unlike the CYL vote, the winners of Shadows Cup are based on the four unit types, with the highest one from each being guaranteed a Mythic Hero variation based on their Shadows appearance. As a separate vote, winners of the main CYL vote are eligible to win the Shadows Cup. The one unit not available to vote was Lyn, who had already received a Mythic Hero variant based on her Shadows appearance.
Trivia[]
In order, the characters who placed the lowest each year are:
Alder is the only character to have placed last more than once.
Alder also shares the record for lowest votes, getting just one in 2023. He is tied with Muston in 2024.
Jorge is the only last-placing character to appear in Heroes as a unit, having been added to the game prior to the 2022 vote. In 2020 he had placed 27th with 6,728 votes, a stark contrast to his relatively minor appearance in Radiant Dawn.
The Gatekeeper is the only unnamed character to win the vote.
Robin is the first character with both male and female versions where both versions have won the vote. They were followed by Byleth.
Gullveig, Eikþyrnir, and Baldr share the distinction of being original Heroes characters who won on the first ballot after their debut, with the latter two both doing so in 2025.
Debuting in December 2022 and winning the vote in January 2023, Gullveig has the shortest amount of time between her game debut and her winning the ballot out of all winners.
↑Grima received 1,473 votes, but is not listed in the men's column, as despite being referred to as "he" on multiple occasions, Grima is officially genderless. If listed in the men's column, he would place 20th, above Reinhardt.
