Chimchar is one of PKMNcount Pokemon in the series of the same name. He first appeared in the Nintendo DS video game Pokemon Diamond and Pearl (two different games released on the same date). He is one of the three starter Pokemon that you will have to chose between, which also includes Turtwig (grass type) and Piplup (water type). As in every Pokemon game, one of the starter Pokemon is a fire type, which is Chimchar. His name seems to be a mixture of a chimpanzee and char, which means scorch, burn, or singe, a reference to its fire type. He seems to resemble a chimpanzee, hence the "chim" in his name.

Evolution occurs in almost every Pokemon in the game. The following is a list of Pokemon that Chimchar will evolve into. Note that the latter Pokemon is the species that Monferno will evolve into, rather than Chimchar (fire type) directly evolving into them.
