Cave Story + is an enhanced version of the 2010/2011/2012 DSiWare, WiiWare, and 3DS game Cave Story based on the revised PC version. It includes a redone script, a toggle for both visual styles and music and an exclusive level. The retail version also included a manual and a mini CD with the game's soundtrack arranged using Famitracker.

The Switch version features an HD redone art style that touches up the graphics for HD. The game also features several minor changes during the game that mostly help with convenience. The player can now strafe, by holding done the ZL/ZR button to stay facing the same direction.

The game had an update in August that included the original games' graphic style as a toggle.
The September update added local co-op.
