Nintendo-based programs on Cartoon Network[]

Cartoon Network is notable for airing Pokémon the Series from the 9th until the 19th season and movie. During this time, reruns of earlier Pokémon seasons were also shown on the channel. After Pokémon moved to Disney XD during season 20, other international feeds continued to air the anime.

Cartoon Network would later air Detective Pikachu several times in 2021 and 2022, 8-Bit Christmas a few times in 2023 and 2024, and the live-action Super Mario Bros. movie on March 10, 2024 (despite neither of these movies actually being animated).

Nintendo references in Cartoon Network shows[]

Mayor with N64 controller

The Mayor playing his N64.

  • On The Powerpuff Girls (the original series), the titular superheroes are shown to have a Nintendo 64 in the episodes The Powerpuff Girls' Best Rainy Day Adventure Ever and Hot Air Buffoon, and Buttercup is seen playing the console in both episodes. In addition, the episode Child Fearing shows the Mayor playing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and doing so poorly that he somehow kills Navi.
  • A running gag in the Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends episode Emancipation Complication is that Bloo is addicted to playing a Game Boy Advance-like system.
  • Two men resembling the Mario Bros. appear in the Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends episode The Buck Stops Here.
  • In the Chowder episode Chowder and Mr. Fugu, the episode's titular characters come to a restaurant where "every dish is different". The two men that take Chowder's order greatly resemble Mario and Luigi, with the patterns on their overalls resembling the bricks found in the Mario series.
  • In another Chowder episode, Sniffleball, the montage of Chowder running 14 bases in the titular game includes a scene of him, Panini, and Gorgonzola in a setting resembling the castles from Super Mario Bros., with Gorgonzola having even taken on Bowser's appearance.
